Physics is the most basic science of the universe. It involves the study of everything in physical existence, from the smallest subatomic particles to the entire universe as a whole. The Pure Physics concentration in the Physics B.S. program provides rigorous preparation for graduate study in any area of physics or a closely related discipline.

The science knowledge and analytical thinking and practical skills acquired while studying physics are an excellent foundation for a wide variety of careers, both within and beyond the traditional STEM fields. In the Pure Physics concentration, students take a core of courses common to all physics majors and then extend their studies with other courses in more advanced topics (also earning a minor in math.) Starting in the freshman year there are opportunities to get involved in the research conducted by department faculty.
